Quincef - 125mg/5ml Powder for oral suspension

Action:

Cefuroxime axetil is an oral pro-drug of the bactericidal cephalosporin antibiotic cefuroxime which is resistant to most lactamases and is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram negative organisms.

Cefuroxime has good stability to bacterial B-lactamase, and consequently is active against many Ampicillin-resistant or Amoxicillin-resistant strains.

The bactericidal action result from inhibition of cell wall synthesis by binding to essential target proteins.

Indications:

Respiratory tract infection: bronchitis, pneumonia, otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis and pharyngitis.

Urinary tract infections: Pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis.

Skin and soft tissue infections: furunculosis, pyoderma and impetigo.

Dosage and Administration

Add 25ml of potable water to the bottle, recap the bottle and shake it well. The volume of the resulted suspension will be 50ml and its strength is 125mg/5ml. do not use hot water. The course of therapy usually is from 5-10days. It is recommended to take it after meal to ensure optimal absorption.

Contra-Indications:

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Side Effect

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and eosinophilia

Inform your doctor about side-effects when using this medicine.

Precautions:

Special care is indicated in patients who have experienced an anaphylactic reaction to Penicillins.

Cefuroxime should be administered with caution during the early months of pregnancy or lactation.

Interaction:

Probenecid competes for renal tubular secretion with cefuroxime resulting in higher and more prolonged plasma concentrations of Cefuroxime.

Shelf-Life:

36 months from the manufacturing date.

Never use after the expiry date clearly indicated on the outer packaging.

Storage:

Store in a cool, dry place. Protect from light

Constituted suspension should be stored at below 25°c. Constituted suspension will retain is activity for 10 days if stored at below 25°c. If your doctor decides not to continue the medication, discard the remaining suspension unless the doctor instructed otherwise.
